Article Review: Sexual Abuse and Female Delinquency
To understand crime, one should be conversant with research on the psychological theories of crimes. In the article, “Is Female Psychopathy Linked with Child Abuse? An Empirical Investigation Using A Person-Centered Approach,” Boduszek et al. (2019) examine the role of childhood abuse in female psychopathy. The link between the article and the psychological theories of crime is explored in this review.
Article Premise and Supporting Points
The main premise of the article is that various forms of childhood abuse increase the likelihood that girls end up becoming members of psychopathy groups. The conclusion is based on an empirical study that was conducted using a sample of 696 delinquent girls of ages 9-17 from correctional facilities. History of sexual abuse increased the likelihood that a female delinquent would be a member of the high psychopathy group by 116 percent and can be considered as a powerful distal factor that contributes to the development of psychopathic personality in females. In such a way, the article provides empirical evidence that childhood abuse plays a role in the development of psychopathic features in females.

To this end, the theo...
