What does the author’s review say about American society and leadership?
According to the author, American society lacks national efficiency. Individuals have failed to protect biodiversity, a primary element that supports life. Instead of planting more trees, people are busy practicing deforestation, which leads to soil erosion. Individuals have also failed to employ protective measures to avoid and curb soil erosion. Similarly, water being a scarce resource, individuals have failed to use it sparingly. The actions of individuals show that they have not realized the aftermath of their actions in the future or simply don’t care. The author has termed these negligence actions as a lack of national efficiency. Similarly, the author also claims that the leaders have raised no concern to address the issue. The biodiversity is running out of non-renewable resources, but instead of leaders coming up with ideas on how to save the non-renewable resources or develop an alternative substitute, leaders are just watching resources getting depleted. The only way to ensure that there is national efficiency is to protect the environment by employing protective measures that safeguard it from any harm for the well-being of people and the coming generation (Taylor, 2004).
