This assignment involves a three-step process. First, students must research their area of interest to find suitable texts to include within their annotated bibliography. A good place to start would likely be the secondary readings from the syllabus, but this assignment will inevitably involve students’ own independent research. Second, students must understand and be able to summarize another author’s main argument or intervention, potentially including a discussion of how the author makes their claims and what kinds of evidence or method s/he uses to do so, etc. The more attention to detail, the better! Finally, students must evaluate the merit of the author’s argument. Is it well supported? Does it seem reliable? Does the argument make a significant claim? Are there important issues not considered? Does the work seem current? This critical stance is an important skill for all strong research papers and will be valuable as third year students work toward their dissertations. A successful annotated bibliography will incorporate all of these elements.

Craft a 1000 word (or so) annotated bibliography on Disney and the Globalization of Childhood that supports research for your selected final paper topic. There should be 4-6 entries, with each entry being about 150-250 words. Each entry should discuss a single piece of outside research (meaning: anything not assigned as required reading for this class). In each entry, students should summarize the text listed; evaluate its strengths, weaknesses, and overall quality; and discuss its relationship to their final paper.
