Your first assignment will be to help prepare an annotated bibliography of scholarly sources suitable for the CNDLS website. “Annotated” means that unlike a standard bibliography, you will include a paragraph after each source citation that summarizes the main idea argument of the piece.
Goals
·To acquaint you with research expectations at the graduate level
·To help you begin thinking about writing material for an authentic audience (in this case, the CNDLS website)
Format
For this assignment you will need a minimum of 4-5 scholarly sources on your topic. Look for sources that are relatively recent and appropriate for a Georgetown faculty audience (for example, findings from a research study conducted at for-profit college with primarily part-time students might not translate to Georgetown). These will serve as additional references for readers on your chosen topic.
Each entry should begin with a complete citation in the American Psychological Association (APA) format (Links to an external site.). If you’re unfamiliar with this citation style, review APA & style on the Purdue OWL. It’s fine to use a citation generator to get the format correct, but be sure to check the output.
After the citation, include one paragraph of 100-150 words in which you annotate your source. Your annotation should include the following:
·A clear summary of the article. The body of your summary should capture the author’s main reasons that justify his/her point. Characterize the kinds of evidence the author uses to make his/her point.
·Your concluding sentence should reflect the significance of the article and tie your summary together
·Even while describing someone else’s view, use your own words. Paraphrase the author rather than quoting directly (very brief quotes, with quotation marks, are okay). Don’t just copy the abstract–try to rephrase..
·The entire piece should be succinct, grammatically correct, and accessible to readers.
Here’s an example of the format:

This article focuses on the role of social capital in responsible leadership. It looks at both the social networks that a leader builds within an organization, and the links that a leader creates with external stakeholders. Maak’s main aim with this article is to persuade people of the importance of continued research into the abilities that a leader requires and how they can be acquired. He relies on evidence from interviews with several business leaders to draw conclusions about a networked approach to leadership.

The authors highlighted the role of ethics from leaders in the medicine and healthcare sector. The authors underlined the need for medical leaders to focus on performance and ethical development. The leader can grow morally by using virtue ethics. The Hippocratic moral doctrine includes the idea of no maleficence heavily. No maleficence, according to the author, entails no harm. The idea of damage is explained in several ideas from the healthcare standpoint. According to consequentialists, harm is anything that causes more harm than good or stops well from happening. On the other hand, injury is defined by natural law ethicists as anything that goes against people's rational nature and limits their potential. The source concludes by stressing that medical practitioner, including in sectors like relationships and life, must hold ethics very high.
