SAP, based in Germany is the largest business-application software company in the world. It decided to use a Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM) in order to gauge its project performance, and this brought success to its overall enterprise. Moreover, SAP decided to use it so as to help in establishing a global project management office (GPMO) to help in strategic planning of its initiatives. This in turn brought success to the organization. According to Kerzner, a Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for maintaining all the intellectual property that relates to project management. The office also actively supports corporate strategic planning (2005). PMMM allows organizations to strive for consistency. It also helps to appraise a company’s process maturity in order to show the areas where the organization can improve process execution (Marcia, 2005). Additionally, PMMM has brought success to SAP’s overall enterprise since the company uses project management maturity assessment reviews of its consulting practices to benchmark its current state of maturity.
