Growing up as an only child in a home where my parents were both working, I learned to do things on my own at a very young age. This is as most of the time my parents were hardly home. This is by the fact that they were both faced with the responsibility of working to cater to all the bills we had. When I was much younger, my parents would always get a babysitter to stay with me while they worked. However, as I got older, they saw the need for teaching me to be independent. It first started with the basic factors before it spread out to include everything around me.
Due to the nature of the life that I had lived, independence and efficiency become my greatest values. I preferred doing everything myself. This way, I felt in control of the things that I did. Further, by doing everything myself, I felt that I achieved the best results by the fact that there would be no one interfered with my operations. The nature of my beliefs was channeled in a way in which I believed that in order to achieve perfection, I was better off when I worked alone.
My beliefs were, however, challenged when I got to join high school. Opposed to my previous values that were centered at doing everything by myself, the school where I attended encouraged the operations of teamwork. At this point, the belief was that in order to achieve high efficiency, it was necessary to engage in teamwork.
