As we all know, parents can influence the development of their children’s language in many ways. One of the most critical ways in which parents affect their children is to correct language errors. When a child says or pronounces something wrong, the adult usually corrects the child correctly. Parents significantly influence the child in explaining the object’s name, meaning, and purpose (Siegler et al., 2003). Adults can help you identify the proper thing with the correct word. Naming development is a strategy used by adults to influence language development. “Where’s your mouth?” which is common in describing such body parts. Adults try to understand the child, repeating it repeatedly so that children can remember and use words often.
Language development is a particularly complex aspect of child development, and no single theory accounts successfully for all that is known about how children acquire language. Which of the three theoretical views that were presented seem to you to do the best job of explaining what you learned about language development in this chapter?

I think the principle of communication is the best theory, and it is better to explain what I have learned about language development. The interactive theory is based on the development of children’s language through communication with others, especially the elderly (Siegler et al., 2003). I think this theory is the best because I always look at it while taking care of children. When I say something, it is easy for me to repeat it to a three-year-old. Sometimes, I say something, but in a few days, I hear the boy repeat it. The second main reason for this theory is that I see other children interacting and tend to follow and learn from each other.
What are overregularization errors, and why do they offer strong evidence for the acquisition of grammatical rules by children?

Overregulation is a language error in which children usually see irregular word patterns. Again, the extreme condition of children to acquire grammar rules provides strong evidence, as it shows that children use verbs to form sentences and that children can combine sentences when using the correct verbs. An example of this is when children say that “tooths” for “teeth” and “goed” means “went.”
