Influence of Greek and Egyptian Art: Cypriot Limestone Sculptures
TERM PAPER (Museum Project)
COURSE: HISTORY 204
Instructor: Maria Antoniou, PhD.
For writing your term paper on History 204 you are expected to visit a major archaeological museum, e.g. Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum or any other Museum that is near you and has art collections of the chronological periods and region we are studying.
For your project choose one (or two) art work (s); this (these) should belong to the Greek/Cypriote art collection of the museum. It (they) could be dated to prehistoric or historic periods, c. 3000 B.C – 323 B.C (see course syllabus) and represent different art categories, e.g. pottery, sculpture, wall painting, metalwork, weapons, coins, jewelry etc.
For the beginning of your project you can consult the online collection of the Metropolitan museum.
By entering a keyword in the search field and by choosing time period and object category you can see a list of available artworks. Please, keep in mind that this link must not in any case be a substitute for your own visit to the MET or to another archaeological museum. It should be used as an initial help for starting your project.
