The Impact of India on the South Asian Culture
South Asia is ethnoculturally controversial throughout the globe. It consists of many countries that have contributed to its lifestyle, social and cultural values. The British imperialism of eastern countries has also impacted the people's sociocultural approach. As a result, the continent is a spectrum of many cultural values, with a few of its countries dominantly influencing the entire south Asian living civilization. India predominantly affects the continent's religions, dress code, eating habits, architecture, and entertainment theatre among its many countries.
Hinduism is the most dominant religion in South Asia, which came from India as it has its origins in invading Aryans to Indus Valley near today's India. Although many other religions on the continent are dominant, like Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Jainism, Hinduism is at the top due to the Indian influence on South Asia's theological culture (Veer 180). The prevailing religious concepts around Hinduism have raised people's interest in Indian clothing. The Hindu civilization wears clothes as per their climate, traditions, rituals, and fashion history. The most popular dress involves lungi, saree, langota, dhoti, kaupinam, and loincloths with native Indian embroidery, handwork, machine work, ribbon work, colorful prints, and embellishment. These clothes can be seen in South Asia, with women wearing heavy jewelry, which is also an Indian tradition (Bhuiyan 1). Shortly, Hinduism and its religion-inspired clothing have overshadowed other theological and traditional values in South Asia.
Indian recipes have more excellent value in South Asia than any other variety of food coming from other countries. India is famous worldwide for its spice and taste of food; thereby, many of its popular dishes are well-loved in everyday gatherings and at festivals in the whole continent. For example, "biryani" is fundamentally an Indian recipe, which was introduced during the era of Sultans with the influence of Al-Beruni- a renowned historian – in the country. It is a spicy rice and meat dish that has become an essential part of festivals and gatherings throughout South Asia (Siddiqa). Many varieties of "Biryani" are eaten in different parts of the continent based on climate, habits, religious concerns, and people's tastes. Besides meat, many people also use vegetables with rice to prepare the same food in South Asia.
Many scholars discuss India's influence on South Asian architecture. From the country's early history, it has successfully established its roots in re-designing the whole continent's construction styles (Sengupta). India has been prominent with its modern architecture from the beginning of the Indus Valley civilization. The change of governors in the country created other marvels of construction. For example, in the Mughal Raj, 'Taj Mehel' construction is still a wonder for the world (Kapaida).
