This assignment is to acquaint you with various ethical responsibilities of the courts’ legal actors: Prosecutors, Defense Attorney, and Judges. Each legal actor has specific ethical responsibilities and professional codes of conduct depending upon his or her role in the criminal justice system. It is important that you understand the differing roles and responsibilities of each of these legal actors. To be prepared for the Discussion and Lecture class session (the due date of this assignment,) you need to complete the following and bring to class in a written report with attachments. This assignment is worth 20 points.
Written Report Instructions (2- pages)
Part A. Legal Actors Violations
Locate three NEWS ARTICLES that portray legal actors involved in ethical violations or professional code of conduct violations. Do not choose common place examples. You MAY NOT use bribery or excessive use of force as examples.
1. Example of prosecutorial misconduct. Attach as Appendix 1.
a. Written Report: One paragraph synopsis of the prosecutorial misconduct.
2. Example of defense attorney (criminal) misconduct. Attach as Appendix 2.

Part B. Prosecutorial Misconduct – One of the primary areas of prosecutorial misconduct is failure to disclose exculpatory evidence. Research and provide the following information:
1. Disclosure of Evidence- Brady v. Maryland is the leading case on disclosure of evidence. Provide a paragraph explaining brief facts, the issue, holding, and reasoning of this case. Be sure to explain what prosecutors are required to disclose.
2. Find a DIFFERENT case that shows where a prosecutor got in hot water for failure to disclose evidence. Attach as Appendix 4. Write a brief paragraph outlining what the prosecutor failed to disclose.
Part C. Defense Attorney Responsibilities
1. Write a brief paragraph explaining the attorney-client privilege.
2. Discuss in one paragraph whether an attorney can allow a witness to “lie” on the stand if the witness is the criminal defendant.

An appeal court In New York overturned Vance Haskell's conviction in 2017 after it became clear that during his 1998 trial, the prosecutor, Mathew Hayes, did not correct his chief witness when she lied on the stand. The prosecutor had struck a deal with the witness that would suspend her prison sentence in exchange for false testimony against Vance Haskell. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit ruled that Vance Haskell should be released or subjected to another trial because the prosecutors' actions influenced how the jurors decided the first trial.
2. Defense attorney (criminal) misconduct
Robert Simels, an attorney in New York, was convicted of tampering with evidence, verbally threatening witnesses, and plotting to kill witnesses. Robert Simles engaged in these acts of misconduct while defending Roger Khan, who is a drug trafficker from Guyana. The main evidence against Robert was a tape that an informant recorded him planning to "neutralize," "eliminate," and "destroy" the prosecutor's witness. Although Robert argued that those words reflect the street language of people from Guyana, he was found guilty and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
3. Judicial misconduct
Guy Williams, a South Texas judge, was reprimanded after several incidences of judicial misconduct against him were presented and proved. In one case, Williams repeatedly touched the butt of a fellow sitting judge despite her telling him to stop. In another case, Williams ordered two children to be taken away from their mothers and handed to their fathers despite the fathers not initiating custodial cases. Lastly, several prosecutors testified that Williams showed prejudice against them during trials.
