a. The p4 Initiative
The p4 initiative is based on a central unifying framework: People, Planet, Place, and Performance. Launched in 2015 to create a new sustainable, innovative, and inclusive model for development and design, p4 aims to establish Pittsburgh as a “city of the future.” In the past couple of decades, Pittsburgh has not only recovered, but transformed dramatically since the steel industry’s collapse. This transformation will continue through a major new wave of development, representing approximately 500 acres across the urban core. This development potential and the manner in which it is guided, will influence Pittsburgh’s built and natural environments, and communities for generations to come.
What does the application of these measures on future developments mean to you personally, the civil & environmental engineering profession and Pittsburgh in general?

Introduction
Although Pittsburgh has undergone a massive transformation for the past one decade, still much need to be done. Better is never good enough to warrant a break and, therefore, it is crucial to continue redeveloping the city to benefit the current and future generations (Peduto, 2016). Pittsburgh city is at the most important point in its entire history, owing to much increased economic opportunities and sustainability. Most American engineers, designers, and architects view the city as a potential model of redevelopment, but with so much work to do. Measures formulated in 2016 on how the development committee will progress and the parties that will benefit may define the operations of the city for decades to come (Peduto, 2016). The p4 program builds upon the city’s global relationships with other cities, green technology innovators, advocates for inclusion and equality, universities and internationally distinguished architects, and designers to implement an inclusive and sustainable approach to urban development, building, design, and employment. The main objective of the p4 initiative is to make Pittsburgh a world-class and modern city that benefits both its citizens and environment. Most of the traditional cities are marred with huge inequalities regarding wealth distribution, incomes, education, the and health.
Moreover, traditional cities have been designed so poorly that various industries, people, motor cars, and airplanes contribute massively to the pollution of the environment (Peduto, 2016). In turn, pollutants have played a key role in the destruction of biodiversity and an increase in global temperature. The measures formulated in the p4 initiative have been designed to ensure that people live harmoniously with each other as well as with their surroundings. Therefore, the program aims to apply engineering and architectural designs that will promote sustainability. Engineers have formulated sustainability principles and included them in the city’s plans, which will act as precursors for future development to ensure that there will be no time in the future when the city will go back to the unsustainable practices (Peduto, 2016). Various metrics have also been established to evaluate large-scale redevelopment and determine the manner in which public incentives should be awarded based on the environment and public health impact, social equality, design, transportation, and mobility. Application of measures contained in the p4 initiative could the mean that the future of Pittsburgh, in general, is great. They could also transform the field of engineering for massively as it will be discussed in the following paragraphs.
What Does Implementation of P4 Initiative Measures on Future Development Mean to Me?
The application of p4 initiative measures on future developments means a lot to me as an individual (Peduto, 2016). Implementation of these measures could mean increased opportunities regarding education, employment, and conduction of business — the formulators of these measures intended to create a city where every person will have equal chances of accessing education, employment, and doing businesses irrespective of thei...
