Hello everyone! Welcome to my collaboration and leadership reflective video.
In this video, I plan to reflect on my experience with inter-professional collaboration clinical setting. The video will assess the experience in terms of noting the ways in which the collaboration was successful or unsuccessful in achieving the desired goals, identify how poor collaboration can result in inefficient management of resources, and explore the best practice leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration strategies to steer teams to success.
First, I have to inform you that it is human nature to work with others or seek different perspectives to accomplish a common goal. Communication, collaboration, and compromise are essential tools in executing responsibilities that demand inputs from different perspectives. As an oncology nurse, offering my patients the best care stays primary among my priorities. Oncology nursing is among the professions that demand an absolute mastery of teamwork skills for success. The team was constituted to address the wellness of the patient with factors such as emotional health, spiritual health, and physical health, all put into consideration. Besides the inter-professional team assigned to attend to JK, there was a need for coordination among different departments, especially the oncology department with the facility’s administration, pharmacy, and informatics that all played roles, albeit remotely, for the success in managing the patient needs.
There is a range of successes and failures that I noted in JK’s case. The areas of success are those that efficiently contribute to the wellbeing of the patient. One aspect of success witnessed was the efficient formation of the team. Anyone diagnosed with cancer may face challenges beyond the diagnosis. As such, their cases should be addressed with the most necessary efficiency. The team was formed fast, which implied a faster address to the patient’s needs. The second aspect of success was setting objectives for the collaboration initiative. Every member of the team understood that the patient needed help on different aspects such as emotional support, physical strength, and spiritual support. Each member worked to achieve the goals. The team was also successful in scheduling and attending to the needs of the patients almost as much as they were needed. While the doctor diagnosed and prescribed treatment, the nurse assesse...
