Ever since the emergence of the acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, the extreme variation known as COVID -19 has caused a global health threat. The world health organization quickly declared a worldly pandemic.
The data from China indicated that the disease targets the elderly and older adults, especially if they have underlying health conditions such as cardiorespiratory diseases and diabetes. The COVID-19 virus is easily transmitted from one person to another through respiratory droplets and direct skin to skin contact. The virus's nature has brought about the increasingly high demand for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The PPEs are particularly essential for frontline health care workers. They risk their lives every day as they take care of positive COVID-19 patients. Most positive cases have mild symptoms, and they recover without getting admitted to the hospital.
Do the PPEs guarantee full health and safety of the healthcare worker using it? Reports indicate otherwise. Some frontline care workers contract the virus while using PPE's. Using a PPE while handling a positive patient does not guarantee 100% protection. The effectiveness of the PPEs is questionable, but with proper use, it can ensure safety from contracting the virus. Regardless of the level of protection provided by the PPEs, medical personnel should employ the necessary precautionary measures to protect themselves from the virus.
Kurt Lewin theory provides three simple steps that have been key in the medical sector. The three steps include unfreezing, changing, and refreezing. The medical and healthcare institution is mandated to provide its personnel with the necessary protective gear, consisting of the outer gloves, inner gloves, N95 respirators, face shield, eye mask, protective clothing, and non-reusable isolation gowns, waterproof shoe covers, and a work hat.
