- Prepare a 10 min oral presentation of your research thus far and what you
intend to write about in your final paper. Include your main ideas, main
theory and your potential thesis.
- Please have a visual aid (power point/video/etc.) to accompany your talk.
- The goal of this presentation:
o Introduce your peers to the work and theory you have chosen to
explore
o To present what you anticipate your final thesis will be and present
your main ideas and arguments (i.e what is the work about, what do
you gain through using a certain theory to analyze the work?)
o Highlight a brief historiography of authors/theorists working in the
same methodology, and how their work has helped you formulate
your own ideas.
- This is an opportunity for everyone to learn from one another, to provide
feedback and pose questions
- Following the presentation there will be a 5 minute period for questions
and comments that will hopefully then be integrated into your final paper

Arbus made use of her talent to advocate for both women’s rights and the rights of the LGBTQ community. The 50s and 60s represent a time in U.S. history when a lot of socially-unaccepted groups were looking for their place in society. African Americans were fighting for their rights, women were fighting for their place in society, and the LGBTQ community was fighting for acceptance. Writers, singers, and even artists came out in support for different causes but Arbus decided to speak to everything that seemed wrong in the society at the time. Her perfect world was one where women were not considered inferior, all races were accepted, and people could love and get married to whoever they wanted. To help champion for the...
