Literature usually makes language beautiful. Through plays, various messages can be created and conveyed through the interpretation of the character roles. Themes are an essential aspect of any play, as all the other elements are built around it. In a hero or villain narrative, the continuation of pain that accompanies the protagonist emanates from his inherent weaknesses. Oedipus the King offers a typical example of just how character play can bring out various themes. The play is a tragedy, depicting the complex family connections between characters, which at the end of it result in death. Having been prophesied by the oracle that he would kill his father and marry his mother, Oedipus flees to avoid the actualization of the prophecy. On his way to Thebes, he meets a group of men, one who insults him as he passed by. Oedipus gets enraged and kills all of them. He then goes ahead to solve a riddle which makes him the king of Thebes.
