Introduction
Problem Statement
The main purpose of this research project is to identify why the level of ignorance in America has seemingly remained constant over several decades despite our progress in providing better education and research facilities. There has been a stellar rise in access to education among black Americans, Latin Americans, white American among other ethnic groups living in the United States. The government on the other hand has made several efforts to try to reduce the illiteracy rate among the elderly in America. The average age of access of education debut has also fallen dramatically over the years (Nie, et al. 1996).
We celebrate milestones when it comes to education and many countries have a lot to do in order to attain the level of the education that America has attained in over 300 years of existence. And even though, as many scholars can attest, much of education takes place equally outside of the classroom (Tyarck 1996). It is however worth noting that despite the technological advancements we`ve made, despite the many world-class universities our students to go, despite the strategic resource databanks that we all have access to, despite the and robust curriculum that we boast to have governing our body, we still have a lot of ignorant people in America today.
Ignorance could be a very relative phenomenon that means many different things to many different people and may prove a little challenging to measure in a conventionally acceptable way. Ignorance perception could also bring to light the subjectivity within all persons out to gauge. For example a professor in medicine could be ignorant on matters economics and vice versa.
In this research, however, we are looking at what we decided to term as popular ignorance. It is not uncommon to find literate Americans making comments or arriving at conclusions that would openly be regarded as ignorant. This has been the trend for several years.
