The Racial Food Politics of America
In the United States of America, according to the article (Pulido pp 524-533), some subjectivities underlie the leadership and management of access points, farmers markets, and CSA in the spaces of alternative food provision efforts. People of color, comprising blacks, Hispanics, and Asians, often receive exclusionary treatments in the hands of their White counterparts, who tend to get preferential treatment in alternative food provision spaces.
According to (Finney pp 1-10), many whites attribute their white supremacy over the blacks to the lack of participation of Black Americans in the gaining of independence and lack of participation in the national parks of the nation. However, the blacks discredit such assumptions stating that white supremacy has gone beyond the skin color and has entered every sphere of lives of African Americans. They question why they should be discriminating based on food while food is a universal right, and they also partake in nation-building and pay taxes to the American government just like the Whites do. The blame also goes to the environmental advocacy groups that do not highlight the injustices that African-Americans undergo in the hands of White-Americans to the extent that the latter feel more privileged to agricultural land compared to the blacks.
The exclusionary practices that the whites advance though, are tied to the White histories. Still, as far as food rights are concerned, they reflect food practices that are ignorant, insensitive, and reflect a whitened culture that is not socially viable. While White Americans drive the notion that Black Americans did not participate in the fight for American independence, they forget that the very Blacks that they castigate were slaves and are the ones that were placed in the frontlines of war to fight for American independence. To this, white supremacy has been cultivated in the American system out of lack of knowledge and sheer ignorance of the whites (Sbicca et al., pp 263-276).
The white supremacy phenomenon is common in America because the food spaces tend to hail white people. They continue to define the American food market and the agro-food transformation projects. The menus in restaurants, Hotels, and other eateries reflect a more inclination to the white customer base. This shows how race is a big issue, considering how race associates with food in many ways, yet numerous livelihood and health inequalities are not addressed through social movement activities. Black people also tend to die early due to the injustices of racism but the effects of racism, in addition, are far-reaching (Sbicca et al., pp 263-276).
