Chicanx Studies 190: Chicanx Images in FilmMidterm ExamThe Midterm is due on Sunday April 4th. NO LATE PAPERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Your midterm is a 3-5-page essay in response to one of the midterm questions. This essay should be written in a clear academic style with an introduction, a clear and focused thesis, a well-developed body that supports your thesis and a conclusion. Your main sources for this essay are the films that we have seen, and the notes you have taken in class. You are encouraged to use outside sources but are not required to. I expect you to include a works cited page in addition to the 3-5-page requirement. If you need to refresh your memory feel free to watch the films again. A good close reading of the film is necessary if you wish to write an insightful essay. Most importantly you should show a critical approach in the writing of your essay. A mere plot summary of a given film without much criticism is not enough. Answers that show depth, analysis, and go beyond the superficial will receive the best grades.
Questions: Chose ONE of the following five essay prompts and write a 3-5 pages essay in response to it.
1. How does the film Real Women Have Curves address the issue of gender roles? What are the expectations placed on the characters based on their gender? How does the filmmaker show the struggle between tradition and assimilation?
(Please let me know if I entered the correct information for the subject area and type of paper, I would very much like to have scholarly outside sources included as well).
