What is the News Today?
News is everything that happens around us. It can be something good like being notified of winning an award. It can also be as bad as being told that you have cancer. News is any happening that is told in an official statement on any platform. It may have different versions, making it hard to distinguish the real from the fake and how it has changed over the years as technology kicked in and social media began to take over.
News is an article containing facts based on significant data like weather forecasts and police reports. On the other hand, fake news is also an article in which parts of the facts or the whole have been manipulated or changed. There are various ways in distinguishing a fake from a piece of real news. For example, the New York Times news, "Presidential Election Results: Biden Wins." Look at the statements, "Joseph R. Biden Jr. was elected the 46th president of the United States. Mr. Biden defeated President Trump after winning Pennsylvania, which put his total of Electoral College votes above the 270 he needed to clinch the presidency." (Andre et al.). These statements contain facts that are put together that speaks of the truth. If any of these facts have been wrongly used or manipulated, it cannot be said the this is a piece of real news. For example, if the number 46th has been changed to 45th or if it was said that President Trump defeated Mr. Biden, it is now false news (Andre et al.).
Even if it is a minor, any changes in the facts could mislead the people's thoughts reading it. These minor changes are critical, especially to the news with quotations, because if a word has been changed or removed, it will never be the same statement as it may be a similar or completely different thought (Andre et al.).
News has changed over the years. Social media has been one of the most used platforms of breaking news as of today.
