The article discusses the grapple regarding the raising of the minimum wage. The politics surrounding the $15 minimum wage has resulted in a heated debate between the democrats and the republicans. The republicans are opposing the ideas by claiming that the drastic change will have a negative impact on business. The democrats support the idea by pointing out that working-class Americans require a raise in the minimum wage to enable them to take care of their increasing needs.
According to the article, raising the minimum wage would result in high consumer prices and job losses. The number of jobs lost would be more than those pulled out of poverty by the increased minimum wage. In 2016, some of the moderate candidates claimed that the federal minimum wage should not be increased, and this amount has remained constant up to date. During the presidential campaign of 2010, Mitt Romney pointed out that the federal minimum wage should be raised as inflation continued to rise. President Donald Trump also claimed that he could support an increase of the minimum wage to $10. Currently, the Democrats have recommended a minimum wage increase to $15(Rappeport & Smialek, 2021).
The current event involves the federal government of the US because the debate is between the republicans and democrats. The federal government will make the final decision as to whether the policy will be passed or not.
