Hierarchy of Needs
Maslow wanted human beings to understand what motivates most people to their achievements. The needs of individuals vary, in line with what they have in mind from the important to the luxuries. In his book, he points out the major needs and spreads them up a ladder in a pyramid. People move towards their ends of lives, and their needs reduce from psychological, safety, social, self-esteem and self-actualization (Kevin & Maslow). In a story by Jeannette, the events uncover the changes that most people in their family. It starts with changes to habitations, security poverty and finally people getting jobs. In an evaluation, one realizes the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs were not met with the children in the book The Glass Castle.
Maslow's needs have two different groupings, the essential and secondary. When one cannot get the primary needs, they will be motivated to find. A person cannot accept to walk without clothes. Their nakedness will catalyze their needs for it and as the resultant search for clothes. Their mother is struggling with the basic needs that people are to have in society. She tries as hard as she would have a house and food (Walls, 1). At some point, the progress for the desire of needs has changed. We are informed of Jeannette making her food when she accidentally gets burnt and goes to the hospital. These are two different cases of needs that come; the mother is trying to find what she knows is useful. For Jeanette, and according to her psychology, she knows that people would despise her if they realized that her interest is partying.
The Walls' cannot find solid protection from maladies. They are not safe from diseases and healthcare provision remains a challenge. Changes in the areas of care in a hospital remind us that one would only survive by some grace (Walls, 21). For the family, they need to have stayed in some stable place. However, what is presented is the constant movement. The family cannot stay in one location because the father is not good at keeping his jobs. Fear would then engulf the family, like cases when Jeanette struggles to ensure their father does not consume his money after the mother gets a job. These are shows of fear, instability, and lack of protection (Kevin & Maslow, 8). They are basic needs which according to Maslow should be fulfilled.
When they move with Erma, their father's mom, they are under suffering. They are subjected to problems of torture. The granny does not allow them to exercise some freedom. Their father and mother see all these and cannot protest. According t...
