Abstract
Recent observation has birthed a new interest in the dynamical and photochemical mechanisms controlling the ozone in the lower stratosphere in the United States. The aim of the study is to show the frequency and depth of ozone penetration into the stratosphere. The Next-Generation Radar will be used within the stratosphere of condensed phase water. We will also determine the distribution of inorganic chlorine that is established in the same coordinate system as the radar observations. Finally, the study aims to establish the high-resolution temperature structure within the stratosphere in the United States during summer that resolves the spatial and structural variability. This include how gravity waves influence the variation. Further, we present observations that describe the final amplification of the catalytic loss rate of ozone for the dominant halogen, hydrogen, and nitrogen catalytic cycles. This include the observations of convective penetration heights, elevated water vapor, and temperature as inputs to the Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) 2D Model. Through observations, we have noted that there is a risk of a rapid heterogenous catalytic conversion of inorganic chlorine, which is abundant in the aerosols. This relates with the loss of ozone in the stratosphere during summer.
