Sustainability Report
What is sustainability? Do people in different parts of the world understand how to achieve a sustainable environment? In particular, sustainability refers to the equal distribution of natural resources between humans and animals in the present and future. Traditionally, people did not realize that the way they used available materials affected upcoming generations. The reality hit individuals hard when they started witnessing the effects of climate change. Besides, people have been using natural resources at a faster rate than they are produced by the planet, which leads to continued jeopardy to ecosystems and biodiversity. For this reason, sustainability is the only thing that can restore normalcy on earth and eliminate significant human threats such as global warming.
Based on my sustainability audit, it is clear that I use more water in showering, flushing the toilet, drinking, and morning chores. For example, in the first week of September, I used approximately 108 gallons on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Saturday, 100 gallons on Tuesday, and 109 gallons on Wednesday. Additionally, in the first week of November, I used about 90 gallons of water on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The only day that I used the least amount of water was on Friday, which was 65 gallons. Indeed, living a sustainable life means reducing the amount of water I use every day. I have learned that one should use resources efficiently to ensure that they are available even for the upcoming generations. On that note, I will adopt the current toilet technology that reduces water usage, and I will control my waste products by going to the market fewer times. Consequently, sustainability at a personal level is the most significant thing in fostering the efficient utilization of natural resources.
Sustainability is the only thing that can create a positive relationship between the planet and humanity. Mayer et al. (2018) claim that humans can adopt strategies from different disciplines, such as physics, ecology, and economic, to promote a sustainable environment (Mayer et al. 419). For example, the principle of thermodynamics can be used to encourage people to use energy efficiently. At this point, the only type of power that fosters sustainability is solar, wind, and hydropower. Besides, burning fossil fuel increases the atmospheric level of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which are responsible for global overheating or warming. The primary sustainability concepts include resilience, carrying capacity, steady-state economy, and the maximum sustainable yield (Mayer et al. 421). Individuals should not live like early humans who were fully dependent on the natural environment such that they began seeing the strain of the planet when rivers and streams dried and vegetatio...
