ProCon.org ( https://www(dot)procon(dot)org/) is a non-profit organization with an important mission: "Promoting critical thinking, education, and informed citizenship by presenting controversial issues (also knows as debates) in a straightforward, nonpartisan, and primarily pro-con format." ProCon.org is based in Santa Monica, California, but many of the issues it covers are of great interest to Canadians.
Instructions
Start at ProCon.org’s home page, where you will find lists of issues, organized by category. Just below the banner PROS AND CONS OF CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES are links to toggle between By Category and By Topic A-Z. Use both views to explore several issues that interest you.
Choose exactly one issue to write about, and read carefully the following information: Each issue starts with a few paragraphs of background information followed by a core question (Should…?). Each topic includes a side-by-side list of pro and con arguments.
For some complex issues, there are lists of PROS & CONS BY CATEGORY. If this seems like too much for you to explore, then you may follow a link to Top 10 Pro and Con Arguments on that issue.
For your chosen issue, write an essay that follows the plan of organization below.
Plan of Organization
Title: Use the core question provided by ProCon.org.
Introduction: In one paragraph, briefly select and rewrite some of the background information, just enough to introduce your essay. Use your own words, without quotation.
Body Paragraphs: In four or more paragraphs, discuss four or more arguments—including both Pro and Con arguments—that you found particularly convincing, or unconvincing, or surprising, or just plain interesting. Write one paragraph for each argument. Use your own words as much as you can. If you need to quote to be precise, then use quotation marks.
Conclusion: In one or more paragraphs, you may conclude with  your personal answer to the core question, and/or  your thoughts on the importance of the question, and/or  your thoughts about anything you learned from this assignment.
Expectations
The response is a multi-paragraph essay of 300-600 words that follows the plan of organization. The content is well-developed to address the assignment task. The writing shows consistent control of sentence structure and language conventions—grammar, usage, syntax, punctuation, spelling, capitalization—so that the intended meaning is always clear, despite some errors.

Should human activities be held responsible for global climate change? Global warming is the most significant problem facing humanity in the 21st century. So far, many parts of the world have experienced the wrath of Mother Nature emanating from global warming, namely floods, high rate of precipitation, drought, melting of ice in Polar Regions, and catastrophic storms. Human activities significantly contribute to climate change since people continue to strain the limited available resources as the world population increases.
Human activities cause climate change. In particular, after Cook reviewed 11,944 articles, the individual found out that only 78 of them opposed that people are responsible for global warming. Another review of 13,950 journals showed that only 24 publications rejected that individuals caused climate change. Additionally, a survey by two German scientists revealed that about 83.5% of climatologists believe that humans are responsible for global warming (ProCon.org, 2019). In reality, people should not deny that the increase in the world population makes them engage in activities that interfere with the natural ecosystem. For instance, individuals are cutting trees massively to get building materials and space. Consequently, they reduce plants, which significantly contribute to the balancing of atmospheric gases.
Currently, it is undeniable that the levels of greenhouse gases have been increasing continually since 1751. Some of the human activities responsible for climate change are burning fossil fuels, transport sector since vehicles emit carbon dioxide, deforestation, and agricultural activities. Other common greenhouse gases are nitrous oxide and methane. When these gases are released in the atmosphere, they trap heat from the sun, which contributes to global warming.
