Question one
The primary immune response takes place when an antigen gets into contact with the immune system for the first time. Often, when this happens, the immune system learns to identify and recognize antigens and realize how to make an antibody against it, thus eventually developing memory lymphocytes. On the other side, secondary immune response the second time when an individual is exposed to the same antigen. During this time, immunological memory is already established, and the immune system can start producing antibodies immediately. Usually, the primary immune response cannot protect against illness; this is because it does not have a memory cell, which makes it take time before producing an immune response.
It is critical to comprehend that the body can take ten to fourteen days before a considerable number of antibodies are produced (Nester, p.336). Additionally, before this period ends, and the individual shows the symptoms and signs associated with the disease. This is different from the secondary immune response, which has a faster response to the pathogen; this is the case since it has memory cells. Furthermore, it is recommendable to maintain clones of reactive cells before the exposure. Maintaining the various clones that can guarantee the generation of secondary immune responses for a given antigen would cause the production of a high number of antibodies that would increase the demands of the body, which will require more resources. An effective approach would include establishing a balance between the responses, time, and materials used during the response. ...
