Intersectionality
Choose one of the concepts below and find 3 different sources (outside of class material) that define or explain that concept. One source must be popular, one source must be scholarly, and one source must be multimodal non-fiction.
Compose a bibliographic entry (works cited entry) for each source and then write a synthesis of the three sources. You will briefly explain the differences and similarities among the sources and then write a response to your research. Some questions you could answer in your response are: What is your own definition of this concept now that you’ve read these three sources? Which definition is the most useful for this class, and why? Do you think any of these definitions are problematic, how, and why?

Intersectionality
Intersectionality describes the interconnected nature of social categories such as race, gender, class, and others, which can lead to unique oppression and privilege experiences for individuals with multiple identities. This synthesis examines three articles that discuss Intersectionality and its implications in different contexts.
Gillborn, D. (2015). Intersectionality, critical race theory, and the primacy of racism: Race, class, gender, and disability in education. Qualitative Inquiry, 21(3), 277-287.
In Gillborn's (2015) article, he explores the importance of Intersectionality, critical race theory, and the primacy of racism in education. Gillborn argues that understanding the Intersectionality of different social categories is crucial in creating a more equitable education system. He contends that race, class, gender, and disability are interconnected, and addressing these intersections is necessary for creating meaningful change.
