Creative Writing: Obituary Lucille Ball
It is no exaggeration to call Lucille Ball a comedienne extraordinaire, as an actress who lighted up the screens in I Love Lucy during the 1950’s. Lucille has left a last legacy in the entertainment medium as a trailblazer for other comediennes. In her first role in the show business, Lucille was a chorus girl in New York during her teenage years. This was the beginning of career where she brought laughter to our living rooms, but she is also more than that as a compassionate and caring individual who cared for humanity. Even as she acted in more than 70 films, it is the I Love Lucy television series running from 1951 to 1957 that became popular among audiences of diverse backgrounds.

Ball had appeared in various films before her acclaimed TV comedy success and from the thirties, she had acted in such films as “The Affairs of Annabel” and “Having Wonderful Time,” even as was cast in low budget films and comedies, there were glimpses of her talents. The character of Lucy represented in three series remains the most recognized comedy series being highly ranked during the 1950’s. It is no small feat that the success of I Love Lucy is partly attributed to Ball’s performance. Lucille acknowledged that one of the reasons for her success was her knowledge of people while her strong work ethic was not only valuable in acting but also as a business executive.
Lucille Ball’s portrayal of Lucy Ricardo in I Love Lucy has made her one of the most recognized actresses in the 20th century. When we look back at her life accomplishments, we realize that was a trailblazer for other actresses, and female director Hollywood studios. Lucille did not let early failure define her, and is no surprise that she fully embraced her roles as a comedienne and actress. In her quest to hone her acting skills, she was enrolled in a dream school, but things did not turn up as expected as there were doubts that she would be confident to stand in front of a crowd. However, as we all know now that was merely a small hiccup, not only was I Love Lucy, in the US but also other countries.
In her own words Lucile stated “I'm not funny. What I am is brave” and as a comedienne, she did not shy away from performing in an era where there were few women. People loved Lucille for her performance and this was evident in how much work she put that she even agreed to be filmed while expectant despite apprehension that the audience would be turned off by this. Just as she was successful as an actress so was she a pioneer TV situation comedy. The plot line of I Love Lucy is one that still resonates with women where her on screen, husband desired that she stayed home, but her successes in real life are not be ignored.
