One of the most significant dates in the history of the world is the 6th June 1944, commonly known as the D-Day. It was the date which marked re-entry of the allies in the European continent and was a part of the larger operation known as the Operation Overlord. The operation is known as the greatest military assault in the history of mankind. The first over alone included the deployment of 156000 allied troops on the shores with the objective of establishing a vanguard for almost two million allied soldiers following this initial assault. The commanders and soldiers participating in the campaign knew that the allies might suffer from high causalities but it was a risk which should be taken in one way or another. Nevertheless, to effectively damage the morale and bring actual harm to the German Army the invasion of the mainland Europe was of crucial importance. The D-Day and the successful Operation Overload is considered to be a combined effort of modern day deception and assault mechanism. The German Army was ensured by means of false communications that the invasion will happen not at the Normandy but at Pas de Calais. The German Defense focused their efforts on re-enforcing their efforts at that point on the map. The allied forces had already decrypted the German enigma encoding and owing to this development they were able to deceive the German Intelligence by propagating a fake operation known as Operation Fortitude2. The main force which was selected to carry out this assault was the United States’ 1st Army Group which were tasked to carry out the initial phase of the invasion via narrowest channel in the sea2. However, the German high command including Hitler were greatly concerned about the fact that their entire plan might fail if the invasion was made through Normandy or Brittany. The possibility of invasion from another location was also advocated by the many German commanders. However, the Field Marshal Rommel who was selected by Hitler to predict the allied approached denied any possibility of an invasion from any other location owing to the rocky trains which in his opinion cannot serve as reliable landing and invading spots. Nevertheless, the German forces slowly began to develop defenses in these vulnerable points.
