According to Tashtoush (2021), one of the primary purposes of an information system is to promote the attainment of organizational goals. It is also part of corporate efforts to achieve a competitive advantage to produce actual and positive results. The value of the competitive advantage is anchored on the need to leverage an IS to obtain global economic data, which is central to reducing the demerits. The increased complexity of enterprise functions and the volatile external business environment prompts an information system to work processes and improve performance. Technology tools, including information systems, offer managers opportunities to foster firm efficiency, increased productivity, and the quality of output (Tashtoush, 2021).
Information Systems and Organizational Productivity and Decision-Making
Information systems have enabled organizational managers to integrate efforts when working on several projects, such as exploring new markets and establishing issues within the existing work processes. As a result, companies have become more efficient since jobs are executed faster and better, leading to higher productivity. It has also enabled the organization to conduct online business through technological tools, including computers, tablets, and smartphones. The firm’s stakeholders can advertise and promote their new products on e-commerce sites to reach and retain customers and augment productivity and profitability. In addition, information systems have given organizations competitive advantages as they can leverage technological tools to do market research and understand how to counter their rivals (Götz & Jankowska, 2020). Using technology to do market research enables corporate managers to make informed decisions, such as restructuring their internal supply chain methods and executing novel business models to counter their competitors (Tashtoush, 2021). In this way, corporate managers make decisions based on factual data rather than feelings and are better inclined to augment the organizational productivity.
