The video is basically about an introduction to NetSim Emulator. A network emulator is simply a program that mimics the behavior of actual networks but doesn’t really connect to these networks. It helps in the interaction between the virtual, theoretical frameworks to live applications or operations. The simulator is therefore a very important tool when it comes to the design and planning of a given network, since it helps provide critical insights into the way certain applications perform. This therefore helps the design team to make correct decisions through the entire process, and to also come up with feasible strategies for the whole cycle.
Using such simulation, there is flexibility and ease of design, as there is indeed the allowance to twitch in between the applications and settings, so as to come up with the most desired combination for the best performance. The video also highlights the features of the netsim, such as its path breaking features. It can be scaled so as to support as many nodes as possible within the network range, while it can also be equipped with settings that enable it to support a number of sources as well as destinations within the given network(Surhone et.al.,2010). This is through the inclusion of a number of protocols thereof, which make this a possibility.
There are a number of things learnt from the video, as well as new terminologies. For example, I learn that the simulator is not just a small, conceptual trial that is in its early stages of implementation, but rather, it is used by large corporations and departments within the government, such as the military and space agency. I come to learn of the term buffer flow. This is an unusual situation that is caused by the overwriting of the boundaries by a particular program, during the process of writing data to a particular buffer. The boundaries get exceeded, thereby resulting in the writing of data to the surrounding memory locations.
I also learnt of the term iperf. This is a tool used in the process of testing networks, whose purpose is to create some set of protocols for transmission control. Quite simply, it helps in ascertaining the maximum size of the bandwidth in relation to the IP addresses and the network. The other term is wire shark, which is used to analyze and troubleshoot any problems within the network. It is an open source packet analyzer. Wire shark is important because it assists the user in placing network controllers via the interface, thereby allowing for visibility of the network traffic through the same(Sanders,2011). Perhaps the most important bit of lesson from the video is that the netsim is simply a simulator that helps to put a system on dry run, before the actual implementation or operation.
Areas that were of most interest to me and those that were of less interest.
The areas that were of most interest to me in the introduction to NetSim emulator clip is the application areas where you find NetSim emulator is trusted and deployed by hundreds of corporations , research institutions and government agencies in military and space communication, distribution companies, manufacturers and service providers(Odom & O...
