SLP Routers in Networks
ROUTERS IN NETWORKS
Packet Forwarding
The SLP focuses on exactly what happens to data as it moves from source to destination. Packet forwarding involves two functions:
Path determination function
Switching function
The path determination function is the process of how the router determines which path to use when forwarding a packet (finding the best path). After the router has determined the best path, the router needs to forward a packet to the outgoing interface (switching).

Introduction
Networks enable people to communicate effectively and interact with different platforms in many ways. A network may be used to access complete online course works, shop using the internet, talk using IP telephones, interact with web pages, participate in conferences on video, and game. The center of any network lies on routers that connect one system to the other. The router initiates the delivery of packets across different networks. When packets sent to various destinations are received by an IP packet that could be a web server in another location or an email server on a local area network (Berger, 2014).A routing table is then used by the router to determine the best path available to forward a packet. The router has the task of delivering packets to the paths available in a timely manner. The success of any internet network communication lies in the ability of a router to forward packets efficiently.
In an instance where a host network sends packets to a device on a different IP network, the packet is then transferred to a default gateway (Berger, 2014). These occur because the host device cannot send direct communications to devices on the local network. These are the main reason traffic is routed in a local network. For each path to receiving packets, a routing algorithm has to generate value. Metrics is based on either a single characteristic or several on a path.
Difference between Hop Count and Bandwidth for the best path determination
When a router is in the process of determining the best paths to send packets, the evaluation of multiple paths to the destination that seeks the shortest path possible is determined. When such multiple paths are available, each path provides a differ...
