How Smart Road Technologies Might Positively Impact The Geneva-on-the-lake Landscape

Research Paper Instructions:

This paper is supposed to be based on a paper that we wrote earlier in the semester about a landscape that we chose in which we had to pick a landscape/ city where we knew that the community has been affected by outside factors and gone down hill.

Technology is not value neutral. Emmanuel Mesthene (1969) said, “New technology creates new opportunities for men and societies, and it also generates new problems for them. It has both positive and negative effects, and it usually has the two at the same time and in virtue of each other.”
Exemplify Mesthene’s thoughts by identifying an absent (not experimental) technology in your Street View's landscape that would increase value. Consider the technology’s potential for both great benefit and any harm. Who/what is benefiting (would benefit) and who/what is being harmed (would be harmed)? Which human values are being (would be) “increased” by the use of this technology? Are any values put into conflict by this technology?
For your information, use at least five (5) academic sources (print or online academic journals or books, not magazine or newspaper articles) found on the UA Library’s database, Academic Search Complete. (From the UA Library search page, you will select Databases by Title. From there you are to select Academic Search Complete. From there you may search for academic articles about your topic.) You will primarily be looking for qualitative data from sources who are writing about projected uses and impacts of your Street View's absent technology. In some cases, there may even be quantitative data, like projected carbon impact due to your Street View's absent technology. However, quantitative data is not a necessary requirement for this assignment. Guidelines for assessing credible sources can be found in the syllabus.

This is a research paper. Write in paragraphs. Use APA formatting. Double space and use headings for the different sections of the paper. Sources and citations are required. Develop your points and ideas. The paper should be a minimum of five pages in length. As a formal research paper, the only portion of the paper in which you should use the word "I" is in the Conclusion/Opinion section.
Sections of the Final Paper:
1. Introduction - define/explain the technology. Be sure to include how the technology works.
2. Pros - Three reasons that favor the use of the technology, one paragraph each. At least one of these reasons should include mention of who/what would benefit. (Include a citation for each pro.)
3. Cons - Three reasons for not using or slowing the development of the technology, one paragraph each. At least one of these reasons should include mention of who/what would be harmed. (Include a citation for each con.)
4. Values - Look at the Family Values Tournament in Module 2. Select two values that are relevant to considering the use of this technology and explain why, writing one paragraph for each relevant value you selected.
5. Conclusion - Your opinion/conclusion based on and referring to the reasons in parts 2, 3 and 4. Weigh the qualitative and any quantitative data on both sides. Add to that, consideration of relevant values. In your conclusion, specifically discuss the pros and cons you mentioned earlier in your paper. (Demonstrate critical thinking skills.) To arrest or possibly reverse decreasing value, should your Street View's landscape embrace the technology, limit its use (if so, to what use), or ban it? And why? This part of the paper is worth the most points (15 points).
6. Works Cited - Includes at least 5 credible sources using APA formatting.
Examples of topics: artificial immune systems; artificial intelligence; artificial neural networks; bio-inspired computing; electric self-driving cars; fusion (not fission) energy; fuzzy logic; genetic algorithms/programming; IoT based smart agricultural technology; neutrosophic systems; open-source geographical information systems; police use of facial recognition technology; smart (intelligent distributed and high performance) architecture; smart roadways; smart waste management; vacuum trains, etc.

How Smart Road Technologies Might Positively Impact the Geneva-On-The-Lake Landscape
Introduction
Several technologies can be used to either cause harm or benefit the people living near Geneva-On-The-Lake Landscape. The technologies that are likely to impact the resident of Geneva-On-The-Lake Landscape are Pavement Quality Index Rating technology, Smart Photonic Guidance System For Road Safety, Smart Roads for Autonomous Accident Detection, and Warnings and Google Maps and Street View. The Pavement Quality Index Rating is critical because it highlights how an increase in temperature or moisture affects the resilience of the pavement. As the moisture in the pavement increases, so does the saturation of unbound granular, which leads to cracks on the road. On the other hand, the Smart Photonic Guidance System For Road Safety plays a key role in the safety of cars, especially in intersections where a large portion of accidents takes place. Since technology is value-neutral, its use is what makes it good or bad. Therefore, it is critical to embrace technology as long as it is used safely and responsibly.
Pros
There are three reasons why having the technology is vital for the street and the people that live in Geneva-On-the-Lake Landscape. The first reason is that the technology is cheap and readily available. By using the technology, engineers will be in a position to determine the quality of the pavements. By having such data, the engineers will be in a position to understand the sections of the road that need repair. As a result, less taxpayer money will be lost in repairing large sections of roads (Abejide et al., 2021). Additionally, a large number of people know how to use the technology and will not need additional training to use the equipment. Having available tools and experts who know how to use them will save the taxpayers millions of dollars that could have been used for new machines or for training people. The money that would have gone to buying new equipment or training people will be used for other social services. The politicians will benefit from having a well-run city that does not require a lot of money to maintain the infrastructure. The residents will also have enough money to purchase goods and services because there is a high chance that taxes will be reduced as the maintenance of the roads go down.
The other reason why the use of the technology should be embraced is that engineers can use it to determine the accident-prone areas. By having such information, the relevant authority can decide to implement tools that detect and prevent accidents (Masatu et al., 2022). Some places prone to accidents are intersections because these are the longest sections of the road, and drivers tend to make a lot of mistakes in these areas. There are, however, tools that can help policymakers reduce the number of accidents, thus saving lives (Mateen et al., 2022). The people who will benefit if such technology is implemented are insurance companies, local road users, and tourists who visit the area during summer. The healthcare facilities will also benefit as the number ...
