Needhidasan et al. (2014) conducted a research on electronic waste. The research was mainly focused on addressing how electronic waste emerged a threat to the urban India’s environment. According to Needhidasan et al. (2014), electronic waste is an emerging issue across the globe in both developed and undeveloped countries. Electronic waste mainly consists of numerous elements with valuable materials that contain toxic waste. The harmful substances usually have adverse health consequences on both the environment and human health. Studies conducted recently found that India had produced an approximated 0.4 million tons of electronic waste in 2010, which further increased to 0.5 and 0.6 million tons in 2013 and 2014 respectively. The country lacks the required infrastructural procedures and facilities for the recycling and disposal of electronic waste, which displays why electronic waste management in across the globe is significantly important. Needhidasan et al. (2014) further illustrates that electronic waste is usually generated through recycling and from foreign countries dumping waste in the undeveloped countries. In most cases, electronic wastes usually end up being dumped in recycling centers and yards, therefore posing significant challenges to policy makers and the environment. It is essential to note that electronic gadgets are usually produced to make people’s lives simpler and happier. Unfortunately, they usually contain increased levels of toxics, which cause their recycling and disposal to become a significant health concern.
Hugh (2018) expresses that people can handle electronic waste by deciding to sell the old electronics, donating the old electronics, disposing and recycling electronic waster in the most suitable way, and maintaining their electronics.
