The Christian faith is by far the largest faith in the world. Hackett and McClendon (2017) established that the Christian faith accounted for 31% of the earth’s 7.3 billion people at the time. Today, there is no continent or region of the earth that is yet to be influenced by the Christian faith. For me, Christianity has always been one of the many faiths that are in the world. I have never thought of it as being special or superior to the other faiths. I consider all faiths equal and in pursuit of the same thing. I believe that there is one God and that all the faiths in the world, through their various means and doctrines, are trying to develop an experience with that same God. Therefore, I have not been a subscriber of any faith, but I believe that God exists and that he is responsible for everything. He is the one who holds everything together and ensures that we can live, amass knowledge, and explore the earth.
The story of Jesus Christ has always fascinated me. How can a man die for the sins of others? Why would God sacrifice his own son so that he could pardon the whole world? These, among other questions that I have, keep me busy at times as my mind drifts to matters of religion and how it influences humanity. For example, the aspect of salvation, especially in the Christian context, has me thinking of the value of humanity to God. Are we that valuable to him? Also, why? Recently, there is one story that caught my attention and made me think of what Jesus did. In China, a bus driver got a heart attack but chose to hold on until he could park the bus at a safe place. The driver made sure that all the passengers were safe, but this cost him dearly since he lost his life. In some way, the driver reminded me of the actions of Jesus and people were indeed astonished by his actions, and the aspect of religion was, of course, a factor in the discussions that people had.
While assessing the story, my mind kept drifting to the actions of Jesus and what he did to save everyone else. The act of the driver was indeed sacrificial.
