SOST 110 Annotated References: Final Project Paper

Research Paper Instructions:

Summary:
You are expected to submit a list of references (a minimum of 6) that you will use for your final project, with a brief summary of the content of the source, and why it is relevant to the project. Non-academic sources (news articles, blog posts, film and television, etc.) are acceptable, however they must be extremely relevant to your final project, and as unbiased as possible in their content (ie: if you choose a blog post, what is the overall agenda of the blog?). Non-academic sources should not outweigh academic sources in your project. Each of the six annotations do not need to be lengthy, but should be approximately 100 words or more. All sources must be listed in APA reference style. If you are not familiar with APA sourcing, please refer to the Owl at Purdue website listed in the course syllabus.
The following example is an annotation done in APA style. It provides a brief summary of the content, and also notes why it is a relevant and useful source:
Ehrenreich, B. (2001). Nickel and dimed: On (not) getting by in America. New York: Henry Holt and Company.
In this book of nonfiction based on the journalist's experiential research, Ehrenreich attempts to ascertain whether it is currently possible for an individual to live on a minimum-wage in America. Taking jobs as a waitress, a maid in a cleaning service, and a Walmart sales employee, the author summarizes and reflects on her work, her relationships with fellow workers, and her financial struggles in each situation.
An experienced journalist, Ehrenreich is aware of the limitations of her experiment and the ethical implications of her experiential research tactics and reflects on these issues in the text. The author is forthcoming about her methods and supplements her experiences with scholarly research on her places of employment, the economy, and the rising cost of living in America. Ehrenreich’s project is timely, descriptive, and well-researched.
