Introduction
The influence of the media on someone’s personality can be both relative and non-relative. The media has a way of positively shaping someone and at the same time ruining people’s character and behavior. As human beings we need the media to inform us entertain us and most importantly gather information. Those are among many reasons why the media has grown to what it is today. However, in most developments such as the development of media, there are always two sides to the coin.
Influence of Media on Personality
The media has so much power in human beings lives. The media is any form of advertising, communication tool or information brought to us through a certain platform. This could be a television, a newspaper, a video game a book or a magazine. They are used for both leisure and informing us on issues affecting us our desires needs and wants. They are also used to convince us positively or negatively about a certain commodity sometimes even with a little or a lot of bias.
Positive Influence of Media on Personality
The media has its good points in our human lives such as informing us on important events such as political issues business and other interests known to us. (Timmermans E, 2017) The media is used to inform us or warn us about things that may have occurred or will occur in near future such as change in weather patterns resulting into national calamities. It also advertises very important issues such as educational facilities that we may need matters concerning health and also business investments among others.
It is also used to advertise. For example, if you have a commodity you wish to sell or purchase it can be used to identify the needed commodity or entice your interest to buy it. The media can also inform us about current trends in the world or upcoming events such as a holiday, an upcoming event; be it political, charity or for leisure and entertainment. (Bradea A, 2015)
In terms of leisure and entertainment the media does not fall short. Movies, television program, series and video games are in plenty. Movies and television programs help in building ones vocabulary helps one to relate the movie to their life experiences hence gain knowledge on particular matters. Video games help the mind in being decisive and making decisions based on the rules and parameters of the game at hand.
Music which is also displayed and heard via television and radio also affects a person’s personality. There cases where music has woken people out of a coma in a hospital bed. Our preferences in music can positively shape our lives to follow a certain way of living be it in humility or integrity. It can affect us directly or indirectly to love certain people or things to stop discriminating against neighbors or to even appreciate you depending on the message the music is portraying.
