Civil rights events
Mass incarceration is sabotaging most of the America families of color. Every American citizen has the right to be treated fairly by the police regardless of their color. Statics from the department of statistics from the police activities of 2015 reveals that most of the black youths stood a chance to be detained more than five times as compared to the white youths. As a result, this has created awareness to the government hence increasing the need to advocate for fairness in the American justice system. The government is already in the move to ensure such fairness following the complaints from different groups of activists. The government of Trump hopes that by the end of their term, the American justice system will treat each of their citizens equally.
The #MeToo Movement which took place in 2018 was aimed at giving a voice to the victims of sexual violence (PettyJohn, Muzzey, Maas & McCauley, 2018). Every American has the freedom of expression, and therefore, such victims should be allowed to speak out regardless of the people responsible for the sexual abuse act. The hashtag was created following the sexual allegations against producer Harvey Weinstein. This resulted in thousands of women using the hashtag to expose situations in which they have been through sexual harassment and were afraid of talking about it in the past. The government has responded positively by encouraging the acts of the movements in order to create awareness about sexual harassment through the various social media platforms. As well, the awareness will be created by voting to ensure that the nation has the right leaders that show concern about the rights and liberties of the citizens.
