The Imminent Danger that Boko Haram poses on the US homeland

Research Paper Instructions:

• Write a research paper that provides a description of Boko Haram organization’s ideology, goals & objectives, leadership, funding, and terrorist capabilities. Describe the groups' known or suspected weapons/lethal agents and delivery methods, and the tactics, techniques and procedures that they may use here in the homeland.
• In your paper describe in detail at least one major hypothetical terrorist attack on the U.S. Homeland by this group -- an event that could happen in the immediate future (an imminent attack).
• In sum, you must describe a specific physical attack (not just a cyber attack) on a target or targets that you assess the organization capable of conducting, and it must be an attack within the U.S. Homeland and be conducted by a trained group or a cell of terrorists (not homegrown or cyber only attack)
• You can describe the full spectrum of capabilities the group has to conduct attacks on our Homeland in your paper from a specific single site attack (an iconic building), to complex synchronized or multi-city attacks, or even the use of WMDs. Describe only the terrorist capabilities and weapons that are relevant to an attack on our homeland (for example it does not matter that ISIS had battle tanks and other major weapons for this paper, only what they have that could be brought here to attack the US, or acquired here). You need to explain what the impending terrorist attack on the U.S. homeland would look like and how they would do it -- such as attacking a specific sporting event or a certain target you select for the organization.

Book Haram is a militant group based in West Africa that is terrorizing people in the name of Islam and causing death and displacement of people. The group began in 2002, led by Mohammed Yusuf, who died in 2009 after execution by police. Abubakar Shekau took over from him and has led the group to the lethal militia they are today. The groups structurally come together under one leader with small dangerous fighting groups. There ideologies and objectives have changed over the years from fighting western education to take over Nigeria and other western states. The thirst for more power led to the pursuit to make Nigeria an Islamic state governed by sharia laws. They swiftly moved to suicide bombings, kidnapping, radicalization, and most frequent attacks on the security service. Their activities still receive finances from ransoms for kidnapping foreigners, extortion, theft, and suspected ties with the more powerful militia. The transition of the group to violence is alarming to many, including the USA. It has led to them designating the group as a foreign terrorism militia in 2013. What is worrying is the lack of understanding of the group's motives. There attacking tactics have evolved, and this is imposing imminent danger America and other superpowers if they attract on the united nations in Abuja is considered.
There are implications of Boko Haram's involvement with Al-Qaida, ISIS, and other militia groups like Al Shabaab of Eastern Africa. The terror group seems to have reached out to other global jihadist and is benefiting from training, funding, acquiring of weapons and intelligence, it is evident with the speed at which the militia is developing with a capability of organizing serious attacks using extensive and dangerous improvised explosive devices and suicide bombers especially women and girls (Walter, 2012, p.2). As America actively intervenes to solve the terrorism in Nigeria, they should be aware that the militia could equally retaliate on their homeland. They are capable because they have support from other groups that have successfully attacked, for example, the 9/11. There is a foreign hand involved in Boko Haram's activities, especially the successful bombing of the police headquarters and the United Nations offices. It is quite difficult for a local untrained militia to attain such success without help (Walker, 2012, p.6). It brings up the question of the vulnerability of critical infrastructure such as hospitals. Unmanned Ariel systems and improvises explosive devices continue to be a threat if weaponized and can lead to successful domestic attacks. Association with significant terror groups means that Boko Haram can physically attack Methodist university hospitals, which are some of the largest in the US. The most critical and worrying trend is the sharing of raw intelligence data between the groups. Hospitals are the most vulnerable because even employees can pose a threat. Anyone with inside information and knowledge of the systems can help bypass security both physically and technologically.
If the militia decides to use women and children in an attack on American soil, it can be catastrophic, especially on the...
