The article’s artefact is a fertility statuette crafted with a womb and breast recently discovered in San Casciano dei Bagni’s hot spring (Silvia 2020). The fertility artifacts were deemed to be votive offerings to various gods. Women who had difficulties conceiving would go to this spring and, after performing some rituals, were able to bear children. Furthermore, after giving birth, women would also come to this water spring again to ensure that their children’s health was protected by offering different types of these artifacts. Despite this artifact playing an important religious role in the lives of infertile women, it is deemed inappropriate by some groups. The main claim is that if people are allowed to perform rituals using this artifact, they are worshiping idols. Thus, although this artifact was of great importance to some individuals, it is deemed evil by others.
