RESEARCH PAPER: FINAL SUBMISSION ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
Utilizing information presented in the required texts, as well as theoretical and practical elements
from academic and Christian sources, compile an original paper which summarizes your
understanding of 1 of the 2 following topics:
(1) Resilience and Spirituality in general, or
(2) Resilience and Spirituality shown in relationship to 1 or more of the major phases of the
Resilience Life Cycle™.
Dependent upon what topic is chosen, you should address factors relevant to success generally or
in the phase(s) under consideration, along with spiritual and professional approaches to
resilience. You may use other issues such as PTSD or TBI to help exemplify and explain
“Resilience” and “Spirituality” (topic #1) or an aspect or two of Dees’ “Cycle” and “Spirituality”
(topic #2), but do not submit a report that focuses on PTSD or TBI that merely mentions
“Resilience” and “Spirituality.” The goal is for you—regardless of what topic is chosen—to walk
away from this project with a very thorough understanding of “Resilience” and “Spirituality.”
INSTRUCTIONS
Your Paper will consist of 4–6 pages of “Body” (text excluding the Title Page and References
pages) in current APA format. At least 5 current (published within the last 10 years), scholarly
resources (books and journal articles) are required in addition to your textbooks (if utilized) and
the Bible. You may use your textbooks, the Bible, and other relevant, older resources; they
simply do not count towards your 5 current, “outside” resources. Keep in mind, 5 resources is
about how many you would expect to see in a paper comprising of 4–6 pages of “Body.”
Typically you want to see at least 3 citations per page. Also, you may be tempted to simply use
textbooks from other courses to help you obtain your content. That is fine, but my hope is that
you will challenge yourself and spend time researching in current articles available through our
library. There you will find the most current, academic thought on any subject.
Grades will be assigned based on quality of content, how well current APA guidelines are
adhered to, the richness of citations utilized, quality of expression, and biblical integration
presented. See the grading rubric for additional information.
 Length of paper: 4–6 pages of “Body”—significant points off if the paper is below 4
pages or exceeds 6 pages of “Body.”
 Include at least 5 current references (within the last 10 years)—points deducted for each
missing or out-of-date reference.
 Follows current APA format. Review the Research Paper: Final Submission Grading
Rubric for guidance regarding grading factors, and, for additional aid, research Liberty

 Paper will be graded on thoroughness, content, and use of theoretical material and
integration of biblical perspective.
The Research Paper assignment will be divided into 3 separate assignments:
1. Title Page and References page,
2. Outline, and
3. Final Submission.
*Please Note: The Final Submission will include each of the prior sections, with the exception
of the Outline, all submitted as one unit.
Note: Your Final Submission will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

Resiliency and Spirituality
Introduction
Spirituality and resilience are two correlated life aspects. Resilience is a personal ability to overcome a difficult life situation. Spirituality is an individual’s belief in divinity. It is embedded within a religious framework. Spirituality can strengthen or weaken resilience depending on its presence or absence. The belief in God creates comfort, confidence, and endurance throughout life trials. The Bible gives many examples of characters that exemplified a resilient attitude. One of the prominent characters is Job. Through spirituality and belief in God, Job developed resilience to endure hardships. According to the Bible, Job, a wealthy and God-fearing man, went through suffering but remained faithful to God. He lost all his wealth and loved ones. However, Job demonstrated his faith in God because of resilience and spirituality, and his fortunes were restored in abundance.
Literature Review
When trials and suffering come, maintaining faith, hope, and trust in God helps endure difficult times. These are times to remember that God will never give you more than you can handle, as indicated in 1 Corinthians 10:13. The Bible says, “temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13, New International Version). Life challenges like traumatic events are guaranteed to occur. A spiritual person will ask for God’s help to understand and overcome difficult situations when they occur. Working towards spiritually strategic objectives prepares warriors for resilience (Cook & White, 2018). Taking the time to learn the word of God strengthens one’s faith and trust in God.
Studies by Cook and White (2018) found a complex connection between resilience and spirituality. According to Cook and White (2018), spirituality guides people through life challenges. In Vitale’s (2015) study, the respondents perceived spirituality as a path to resilience. The research also found that the two concepts are instrumentally connected to having and maintaining well-being. As a source of resilience, spirituality extends past the moral guidance it offers to many. Reutter and Bigatti linked religiousness, spirituality sources, and belief systems with increased happiness, well-being, and life satisfaction (Manning et al., 2019).
Spirituality
Spirituality is always considered a mental health resource. As a mental health resource, a healthy spiritual life influences how people adjust to life’s difficulties and even guides their decisions (Reutter & Bigatti, 2014). Resilience demonstrates how individuals adapt to difficult life challenges like stress, trauma, relationship problems, and workplace issues (Raghavan & Sandanapitchai, 2019). Those who have deep spirituality can demonstrate such resilience. This does not mean that such people do not have significant emotional responses to problems–they do. Howe...
