This paper sought to identify the leading causes of each of the subtypes of schizophrenia? And their relations. Further, it looked at the gene defect of schizophrenia which can be inherited by the newborns. The third question this study sought to answer was whether there are any differences in the treatment for people with schizophrenia since the condition is often accompanied by other mental illnesses, such as depression or bipolar disorder. Also crucial to the research was how the delusions in persons diagnosed with schizophrenia are created and what can trigger delusions and hallucinations. And lastly, it sought to establish whether the patients can differentiate between delusions and reality – and how?
Although the exact causes of schizophrenia are not clear most studies link the diseases to heredity, biological, and or viral infections and immune disorders. Researchers have noted a consistent occurrence of the disease in families with previous cases. As such they to some extent deduce genetics as one of the causes of the disease. Just like other genetically-related diseases, schizophrenia also tends to occur if the body is subjected to both hormonal and physical changes – such as the changes during puberty in the teens as well as the young adults. These changes could also occur after experiencing trauma or excessively stressful circumstances (Schomerus, G., Matschinger, H., & Angermeyer, M. C., 2014). Secondly, scientists have linked the schizophrenia patients with an imbalance of the brain chemicals or the neurotransmitters. Precisely, neurotransmitters in question are glutamate, serotonin, and dopamine. It is believed that these chemicals assist in the transmission of messages in the brain.
Consequently, their imbalance affects the brain’s reaction to stimuli. This explains the reason why schizophrenia patients are not able to tolerate overwhelming sensory information such as bring lights and loud music – thing that other persons can comfortably tolerate. It has been proved that t...
