Impact of Data Integrity on Organizational Performance
Modern business organizations increasingly rely on data to inform operational, strategic, sales, and marketing decisions. As a result, data management is now an essential component or resource within these organizations. The effective use of data in informing decisions and processes relies on optimum data integrity. Data integrity refers to a database's general accuracy, wholeness, consistency, safety, and security (Lee et al., 2004). In other words, businesses prioritizing data integrity are often characterized by improved performance (Agba & Rijami, 2022). Data integrity is essential in protecting organizational information from data loss, breach, or theft by outside forces or hackers with malicious aims (Nikam, Patil, Vakhariya, Mohite, & Magdun, 2020). While data integrity is vital for business performance, it also aligns business operations and culture with the Christian value of honesty. In other words, data integrity should play a central role in organizational performance while enabling the organization to operate on Christian values.
Problem Statement
While there is an increase in reliance on data, some organizations often fail because of difficulties in maintaining physical and logical integrity. Database integrity is supported by rules, standards, and procedures that ensure data is consistent, complete, and accurate regardless of how often it is accessed. However, these rules, standards, and procedures must often be reviewed or updated because of drastic changes in technology, data management techniques, and threats. According to Wang, Yang, and Li (2022), keeping up with these changes requires organizations to continuously invest in data integrity by keeping up with changes, training employees, seeking newer hardware and software, and accessing newer data formats. However, this undertaking is often neglected, especially if employees, managers, and leadership do not understand the influence of database integrity on business performance. Hence, the perceived lack of understanding of how database integrity influences business performance contributes to different stakeholders' ineffective use of data within an organization.
Purpose Statement
In this view, the research aims to investigate and determine how data integrity impacts business performance. The critical assumption is that businesses that pursue optimum data integrity show improved performance in decision-making, operations, and internal processes. At the same time, such businesses are serious about the Christian value of honesty. On the other hand, companies that do not prioritize data integrity will struggle in aspects like decision-making and are, therefore, characterized by dishonesty and reduced performance. Thus, the critical research question is what is the impact of data integrity on business performance?
