Using a Gantt chart can be of great help while running a project. One of the reasons why a Gantt chart is a crucial and effective project management tool is because they can help in planning. Planning mainly involves identifying tasks, assigning importance to tasks, assigning individuals various tasks, determining or identifying task relationships and the interdependence of different tasks, and the time to be taken to deliver the different tasks. While using a Gantt chart, one can easily identify the essential tasks. Essential tasks are those that appear to influence or that are attached to all other tasks. Their success or lack thereof influences all other tasks. While using a Gantt chart, one can easily see the tasks that stand out or that are important. Additionally, a Gantt chart makes it easier to also calculate the projected timescale for delivery.
Aside from the above, it is crucial to mention that Gantt charts also help in determining the relationship between tasks. This reason or explanation is rightly explained by Swiatek, Chung, and Mahmoudi’s (2016) study that seeks to deliver a practical approach to managing the research process. In their study, two relevant are defined and their relationships outlined. The two are Interview Review Boards (IRB) and Personal Investigators (PI).
