Introduction
Leading entrepreneurs, especially in the tech industry, are often seen as the weirdo, often behaving strangely in their social life despite being excellent in their professions. The most notable example in the tech industry is the late Steve Jobs of Apple Inc. who was associated with all sorts of unpleasant qualities in the way he ran the company despite a ton of success the company attained courtesy of him. Elon Musk, one of today’s leading technopreneur does not miss out on the criticism of his personality on the way he manages to run multiple companies as a lead CEO. This paper purposes to provide a detailed analysis of the various aspects of leadership portrayed by Elon Musk, some making him a great leader while others arguably limiting him.
Ethics and Professional Code of Conduct
It is logical for every modern-day company to have codes of conducts preferably in print media to guide their employees. According to  Lussier and Achua (2015), there exist some guiding principles one can follow in order to make ethical decisions; the golden rule, four-way test, code of ethics, stakeholder approach, discernment, and advice. Elon Musk strive to attain all the guiding principles but the stakeholder approach and the golden rule seems to be significantly attributed to his mode of operation. The golden rule advocates for fair treatment where one should not expect to be treated any better than the way they treat others. The stakeholder approach to ethics aims at ensuring that everybody’s interests are put into consideration without bias.   Musk has the unique leadership attribute of leading by example. He has a philosophy that he as the founder and CEO of multiple companies has to put more efforts including engaging in activities out of his expertise to realize success. With his authoritarian nature, the employees under him have no excuse of underperforming and therefore a culture of hard work inspired by Musk as the leader is attained across his companies. Musk often sets high expectations for his employees as well as himself too. The idea of Musk building an autonomous car, Telsa, was to eliminate the use of fossil fuels and replace them with electricity. Not only did Musk had the interest of achieving financial success through his company Tesla but also, he had the interest of saving humanity.
