Many companies have grown and had a different organizational structure that helps them achieve their objectives. Amazon has a hierarchical type of organizational structure that is led by two chief executive officers. The senior management team of Amazon has members that include the CEOs, three senior vice presidents, and one controller who works worldwide. Each member at the top management level is held accountable in various undertakings of the business, and they report directly to the company’s CEO, Jeff Bezos. There are other departments in the organization that involve the human resource, legal operations, information technology, and the heads of the departments who report to the Amazon CEO directly.
The hierarchical structure of Amazon has been significant due to the growing size of the business as it organizes well the small teams that deal with various duties and responsibilities in the organization. Through this structure, Jeff Bezos is doing an excellent work for introducing the ‘two pizza rule’ where the meetings are supposed to be in small teams that only two pizza could feed them (Wells, 2015). With Amazon being one of the biggest companies and growing frequently, it has managed to maintain its flexibility while adapting to constant changes in the marketplace through its organizational structure.
Amazon, led by Jeff Bezos, chose the organizational structure since it’s one of the big companies having branches worldwide, and it requires improvement and changes every time. Through the organizational structure, then the company can adapt to differences that arise and can improve its systems well through reporting to the senior departments for better decision making (Martin, 2017).
