While our personalities change in different circumstances, as Bregman (2015) postulated, I believe personality assessments like the Big 5 Personality Trait test can help us understand key aspects of who we are. With this understanding, we can identify areas that we need to improve on to become better people. Therefore, I undertook the Big 5 Personality Trait test, which yielded some interesting aspects about my personality, most of which I agree with. In this paper, I will share how my profile, based on the results, might influence how I relate with others and how I can change to be more effective with the people around me.
Openness is one of the elements tested in the assessment. The results showed that I am high in openness, meaning that I am curious about other people and the world. It also means that I am adventurous and eager to learn new things. I must say my score on personality is correct because I consider myself a curious person who is open to new experiences. While I am quite eager to meet new people, I always prefer those with whom we share interests, like how the universe works and how unique other cultures are. I am particularly interested in new cultures and their different ways of life. One of the interesting cultures I have recently learned about is the Kalash people of Pakistan, who are animists. The uniqueness of different cultures around the world fascinates me, and I think to a great extent this is consistent with my results on openness in the personality test. While I have huge interests in people from other cultures, I think my interest in the people around me is not as high, and this is probably an area I need to improve on to become a better person.
The results also showed that I am low on conscientiousness. According to Egan et al. (2017), people high on conscientiousness are responsible, hardworking, ambitious, and organized. Such people tend to plan things ahead and often reflect on how their behavior impacts others. I must admit that it is depressing that the results show I am on the other side of the spectrum. I like to imagine myself as being responsible, hardworking, and a person who cares about others. I consider myself good in how I relate with others; however, as per these results, I need to make some major changes in regards to how I relate to those around me.
The results of the assessment also pointed out that I am low on extraversion. It is important to note that people high on extraversion are outgoing, cheerful, high energy, and talkative, while people on low on extraversion like me tend to be more reserved (Harris & Vazire, 2016). In addition, people high on extraversion tend to have better socia...
