To understand and prevent the new coronavirus and its impact on Chinese students studying abroad

This article mainly focuses on the impact of the new coronavirus on Chinese students in the US and specifically at PSU, Abington. To understand how the lives of the students have changed, interviews and surveys are provided and look into changes in career planning and lifestyles.
The interview research approach is used to collect qualitative data and information, while the survey research method collects quantitative data on changes in lifestyles. Students lack access to seamless and reliable information from China and there is no consensus among stakeholders in the US on how best to improve health outcomes. To limit the spread of the virus, the students are keen than before to use social distancing and there is less physical interactions to reduce human-to-human transmission. There also uncertainties on the way forward as students will stay longer in schools, and yet some planned to go back to China after completing their studies.

How the coronavirus affects the Chinese students who study in US?
Research Method​
The quantitative and qualitative research approaches are used for conducting research while the responses of interviews and surveys reflect the respondents’ experience. The aim of the research is to understand how the virus affects the Chinese students at PSU, Abington. Interviewing the respondents is preferred when there are no restrictions on data collection including the setting and the time of collecting the data (Polit and Beck 345). In the surveys the students’ actions, behavior and attitudes are taken into consideration in quantitative data analysis. The effects of the coronavirus on different aspects of the participants’ lives including college career planning and their lifestyles are considered.
The main focus of the interview is “the impact of the outbreak on college career planning”. Qualitative information is used in the interview where the context of the participant’s experiences is considered. The survey focus is “Has the virus changed their lifestyle?”. In collecting the survey data, there is no intervention and the survey is distributed to the participants through Wechat. The survey data collection approach reflects’ how the virus affects the participants directly and indirectly at the moment as they have had to make adjustments in their lives, which is partly influenced by access to information and advice from public health officials and policies adopted by the university.

Students and prospective international students seek information and communication at a time when the Chinese government has been slow to provide accurate information.
SARS occurred in China causes social panic in the country because of lack of information and clear message from the government and this may be repeated in the current coronavirus outbreak (Qiu et al., 2). When compared to earlier epidemics such as SARS the rapid spread of different kinds of rumors and contradictory information has also made Chinese students as scapegoats.
