It is correct that the Territory of Hawaii was well-organized and one of the most incorporated territories of the United States. It existed for a half-century, starting from 1898 and ending in 1959. At that time, just like most other territories, racism was at its peak in the Territory of Hawaii (Peterson, 2000, p. 21). Most of the decisions used to be taken by race, gender, class, and religious background. For example, the Hawaii Admission Act once specified that the State of Hawaii would have nothing to do with the Palmyra Island, Kingman Reef, Johnston Atoll and the Midway Islands, as well as the Sand Island and Kalama. All of these decisions were based on racism, and it left an ever-lasting impact on the entire territory (Peterson, 2000).
