Rationale for Methods

Research Paper Instructions:

In 500‐750 words (not including the title page and reference page), develop an evaluation plan to be included in your final evidence‐based practice project. Provide the following criteria in the evaluation, making sure it is comprehensive and concise:
Describe the rationale for the methods used in collecting the outcome data.
Describe the ways in which the outcome measures evaluate the extent to which the project objectives are achieved.
Describe how the outcomes will be measured and evaluated based on the evidence. Address validity, reliability, and applicability.
Describe strategies to take if outcomes do not provide positive results.
Describe implications for practice and future research.
Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Please refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.
Upon receiving feedback from the instructor, refine "Section G: Evaluation" for your final submission. This will be a continuous process throughout the course for each section.

Rationale for Methods
Methods that will be used to collect outcome data include surveys, observation, and records review. Surveys will be used to collect data from patients and staff members. Patients will complete anonymous post- hospitalization questionnaires. Staff will complete questionnaires anonymously prior to and after the actual intervention. The rationale behind the use of questionnaires is to provide anonymity. The observation is used to ensure compliance (Sickbert-Bennett, et al., 2016). Record review is the only way to gather data on hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) rates before and after the intervention. The hospital employee in charge of the project will review hospital records to determine the rates of HAIs.
Outcome Measures and Project Objectives
The pre-intervention surveys will gather the understanding of staff on the significance of hand hygiene and consequently help inform training and awareness. It will, therefore, help in improving the intervention approach. The survey of patients will provide data on the effectiveness of staff training as well as the extent to which patients cleaned their hands. The data will be useful in gauging whether hand washing is effective in reducing HAIs. A comparison of data before and after the intervention from the review of records will help to determine whether or not the intervention worked in reducing HAIs.
Measurement and Evaluation of Outcome
A comparison of HAIs rates before the intervention and after the intervention will determine whether it yielded positive results. This, therefore, means that the validity of the intervention is high. The presence of trained observers and questionnaires for participants will be used to determine the extent of the compliance to the intervention. The trained observers will monitor how participants engage in hand hygiene and report their observations on daily basis. As demonstrated in the studies such as Sickbert-Bennett et al., (2016), Haverstick, et al., (2017), and Fox, et al., (2015) hand washing and compliance interventions resulted in significant decreases in HAIs rates. Therefore, it is anticipated that the reduced HAI rates that are expected after the intervention will easily be replicated in other healthcare settings. Other hospitals can implement the intervention and measure the HAIs rates before and after the process. The measure of the outcomes is bound to provide consistent results in other health care settings. The intervention will thus be reliable and...
