HIV/ AIDS Among African American Women
The spread of HIV/ AIDS has been a major concern across the world and as a result various measures have been undertaken in order to curb the high spread of the virus among individuals. Research indicates that the virus is still incurable and efforts to come up with the possible cure to the virus have become futile up to date. There before it was considered that those with the HIV virus will die or live for a shorter period of time. However, nowadays with the dynamics in technology and best ways to live, HIV has been regarded as any other common disease and many people are comfortably living with the virus. The use of antivirus has also aided a lot in the survival of those infected with the virus. ARVs help in the boosting of the immune system in the body and therefore enable the normal functioning of the body. In addition, the virus can be transmitted through blood intercourse from an infected person or even via sex with the same person. A number of organizations have come up to support those with the virus through a number of aids and advocating the use of condoms as a way of preventing the spread of HIV. This argument is based on HIV/ AIDS among the African American women in the city of Baltimore located in the U.S. state of Maryland.
The Target Population
My choice to research about the city of Baltimore is because it is among the largest city and also it has quite a large population of people. The city has also a large number of African Americans. According to the 2010 data that was conducted, it indicated that the number of African Americans was the majority and comprised 63% of the whole population (Mignola & Golden, 2012). HIV cases have also been on the rise in Maryland and this has been a major concern especially to the health practitioners as they scrambling for new way in order to deal with the issue. From the research that has been conducted from the year 2003 to 2012, it indicates that those between the ages of 20-29 are the highly infected individuals in the society and the percentage has since then doubled from 16% to 31%. The high spread of HIV among the African American women in Baltimore is as a result of lack of the necessary information concerning HIV. The University of Maryland School of medicine has also partnered with other organization with the aim of reducing the high rate of spread of HIV (Healey, 2011).
Integration of the Program to the Target Population
There will be a concrete plan on ways that we will use in order to reach every individual in the community. This will involve creation of awareness to the public and encouraging them to participate all through the program. In Baltimore, for instance, where the cases of HIV are on the rising. It will be prudent if we set up mobile clinics in different areas so as to reach every individual who might have been constrained. The use of mobile clinics will be one of the easiest ways to reach the less fortunate in the society who might not be able to have access to this kind of services. In addition, the use of adverts will also enable the creation of awareness to the public by informing them on the dangers of HIV and how they can prevent th...
